The Foodie Guide to Missoula, MT

Every foodie knows the best part of traveling is eating (and drinking) like the locals. After living in Missoula, MT for the past 4 years, I have compiled a list of the absolute best mom and pop cafes and restaurants in the area.

Best Places To Eat In Missoula

Notorious P.I.G.

I worked in a store downtown for several years where I had the opportunity to meet several tourists. Notorious P.I.G. was the only place southerners considered quality BBQ in Montana.
**Make sure to peep the snarky sandwich board outside as you pass by and ask for my girl, Katie.

What to order:
The turkey sandwich is the bomb.com, but I’ve heard the ribs are to die for. Pair it with their macaroni and cheese AND beans, then walk to one of the clothing stores downtown and buy yourself some sweats because you’ll need them.

Tamarack Brewing Company

Major bonus if you make it there for brunch on the weekends because they have a mimosa & bloody Mary bar. However, this is a must if you’re visiting Missoula for the first time and the order is simple… Keg Nachos. And because it’s a brewing company, you might as well grab a beer or two!

The Catalyst

In the heart of downtown Missoula lies my favorite brunch place of all time… The Catalyst. It’s always really busy and the waiting area is less than ideal, but I can assure you it’s worth the wait.

What to order:
If we’re being honest, I have never read past the Heap on the menu. Potatoes, eggs, cheese and all of the vegetables that matter in a personal skillet… need I say more? Their espresso is also top-notch, but if you’re not much of a coffee drinker I would highly recommend their London Fog (as pictured).

Tagliare Delicatessen

Home of the greatest sandwich names in Montana. It’s a deli setting (which you probably got from the name), so I wouldn’t really recommend it for a date, but would definitely recommend for grab and go.

What to order:
My personal favorite is The Beach Boy, but they are known for Megadeth.

Cambie Taphouse + Coffee

New to Missoula and with 45 taps… why wouldn’t you check it out? Whether it’s coffee, beer or wine, this is an easy choice. The drinks are nice, but you can get a beer pretty much anywhere. The big thing at Cambie is the snacks.

What to order:
The Cambie fries.
