Staying Positive During Trying Times

Choose Happy

I will be the first to admit that I can be extremely pessimistic. All it takes is one or two setbacks before the domino effect comes into play and I’m the Negative Nancy poster child. The duration of this pandemic is unknown and for many, that is not only frustrating but also scary. It’s so important to find positivity in your disrupted routine.

Turn Off the News

First and foremost, turn off the news and walk away from the television. There is no reason to focus on the increasing illness and fatality count. Instead, wash your hands, call your loved ones and practice social distancing like you would do whether your town had been affected or not. The news is a toxic rabbit hole that many of us can’t afford right now.

Not that all news is so negative, instagram accounts such as Good News Movement and Tanks Good News remind you that there are still good things happening. Like most things on the internet, take it with a grain of salt!

Get Outside

I know that’s a big no-no, but you can still spend time in the sun. Go for a walk, go fishing, or even plop down on a lawn chair. Being outside not only bolsters your immunity and vitamin D production but also lifts your spirits and well-being; which we could all use a lot of.

If you’re fortunate enough to live in an area where you can practice social distancing outside your home, DO IT.

Clean, Clean & Clean

A clean place makes for a positive mental space. Declutter your home and declutter your thoughts to give yourself a sense of accomplishment and relaxation.

Think Before You Throw, consider recycling or other alternatives than the landfill.

Live In The Moment

The whole world is on pause, but it doesn’t mean your life has to be.

Reframe your thinking from how much you’re missing out or what you can’t wait to do; to what you can do right now. Rather than wallowing in pity, embrace the time to do things you’ve always wanted to. Work on yourself, set goals, finish all of those projects you no longer had time for, and take advantage of this opportunity.

Come to Terms That It’s Ok Not To Be Okay

Things are CRAZY. People are missing major life events weddings, graduations, even funerals because of this virus. Life as we know it will never be the same and it’s important to recognize and mourn these changes. It’s important to stay positive, but you can’t live in a fantasy land. Sometimes you need to recognize the bad to appreciate the good. Cry it out, then pick up and move forward.
