June R.E.P.O.R.T.

Enter July… I feel like I can only make the “June’s over? Julyin” joke so many times.

June was a challenging month. There were many situations I wasn’t really ready to address that left me a little unsettled, but here we are. Halfway through the year – an election year at that.

Reading

Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough. 10/10. This book was sooooo so so good. As previously mentioned, I love a good twist in a book and this one had me shook. It was all I thought about days after finishing.

I watched the Netflix series when I finished the book, and it was okay. The show lets on a lot more throughout than the book does so there isn’t as much of a shock factor at the end, but it was still good. It’s worth checking out (but not until after you read the book – trust me).

Eating

I got really into cooking again in April and May. I ate out a lot in June.

I think it started when I was traveling at the beginning of the month, then I did a little house-sitting, and because I was super out of my routine, it just seemed to make sense. The meal of the month was probably burgers – there are some seriously bomb hamburgers in these parts.

Playing

I went to a play! Maybe a musical? Whatever you consider Hamilton.

That’s right – in an election year. Did you know he was an immigrant?

I will be the first to admit that eastern Montana schools are not the best, but I was surprised at how little I knew about Alexander Hamilton and the other founding fathers. I’m not sure why I figured he and Thomas Jefferson were just good old boys smoking cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo, but I was mistaken. And Hamilton encouraging his son to enter a dual to protect his honor seems a little narcissistic to me, but also kinda punk rock.

Obsession

Mindful moments.

Mindful moments, little brain breaks, being present… it’s all the same. I could be better about factoring meditation into my routine, but sometimes I just don’t get to it. I’ve been trying to be more intentional about taking short periods of time out of my day to reset and it makes all the difference. As a collective, we really do need to be intentional about screen breaks and literally going to touch grass.

Recommendation

Saying yes to opportunities as they present themselves.

It’s really easy to get caught up in reasons not to do something – and there will always be a thousand reasons not to – but I’ve been making it a point to assume the best outcome. I will be the first to admit I can be a little jaded and I’m working on restoring my faith in humanity and experiencing whatever it has to offer.

Treating

Plants. 🙂 Back at it. I’m up to 16 plants… inside, and 14 outside in my new apartment.
