2024 Q3 R.E.P.O.R.T.

Monthly reports? Hardly remember those.

Life has been so crazy in the best ways possible, although there have been some unpleasant moments. Lots of fun-filled weekends, day trips, family time, and making so many new friends. However… in June, my company laid off approximately 1/3 of our department, followed by another round just last week in November. This unfortunately occupied a lot of my mind’s capacity. I am beyond grateful to stay in my role, but it was devastating watching my peers’ lives being turned upside down.

Reading

I cruised through the ACOTAR series this fall (late to the party, I know). I started pretty early upon moving, but I made it through the entire series within months. I have a really difficult time starting books – I hate having to learn the setting, the characters, yadda yadda… so I was on the hunt for a series for a while. While this isn’t at all my preferred reading genre, it opened so many random doors for me. For example, I met one of my now best friends and found my favorite bakery through a book discussion I attended for the first book.

I’m currently making my way through the Crescent City series, but I’m having a difficult time getting into it… stay tuned.

Eating

I cannot stop eating burgers. I honestly don’t know the last time I’ve eaten so much red meat in my life, but I feel like I’m constantly craving burgers these days.

However, as we know, I’m a bit of a nut regarding my gut biome. After having strep not once, but twice in a 3 month period, I’m pretty much building it from scratch thanks to a thrilling series of antibiotics. In an effort to do so, I’ve been trying to introdcue a lot of fruit into my diet (not a fan tbh), including pomegranates, dragonfruits, and plums which are delicious but goodness gracious they’re a little pricey.

Playing

I joined a tennis league! Sets in the City Fall League went from September to November and it was so so fun (and humbling). Like all leagues, there were people there who were crazy competitive and low-key killed the vibe, but there were so many who made it so fun. As someone who was always partial to singles, it was a crazy adjustment to only play doubles. I would overall rate the league 8/10 as it was so fun to brush the dust off the racket and meet people in a setting outside of the bar scene. Team Baby Got Backhand for the win.

Aside from that there have been many smaller and exciting activities including seeing Clint Black in concert, going to a Stars game, a Rangers game here and there, exploring more of the food scene, a weekend trip to Austin, art festivals, and my trip to South America this week (wooo!).

Obsession

I’ve become consumed by SPENGA. SPENGA is a workout class that consists of 20 minutes of Spin, 20 minutes of Strength, and 20 minutes of Yoga. As someone who gets bored really quickly in an type of class I try, I love that it includes all 3 things I like in one singular outing so I only need to give myself one hype talk.

I finally understand the Orange Theory and Crossfit cult atmosphere as I’ve recruited three of my friends into getting memberships.

Recommendation

SPENGA, obviously.

Just kidding. I’ve been recommending a lot of people update their resumes and LinkedIn during these uncertain times. It’s an unpleasant task, but it’s better to be prepared. I’m happy to review anyone’s profiles or resumes or act as a reference if needed!

Treating

I have been on such a crazy coffee kick lately – several a day, in fact. I remember when I first moved to South Carolina and would drink a pot a day, I would low key overdose on caffeine but now I feel like I cannot function without it. My sleep has been so chaotic, which I’m grateful to have so many fun opportunities to keep me entertained, I’ve definetly been paying for it with my sleep. Today every day I am grateful for the beloved bean.
