April was a happening month – so happening that I was able to note enough things to bring back a month R.E.P.O.R.T.
Reading
Signs: The Secret Language of the Universe by Laura Lynne Jackson
It’s such a sweet read – I was easily 40 pages in the first night upon starting.
We’ve all been there – asking for a sign from a loved one who’s passed, that you’re on the right path, whether or not you should quit your job. It’s a friendly reminder that there is so much more than what meets the eye, and we really are so loved and supported, we just have to keep our eyes open to the signs (get it?).
Eating
Lately, my hyperfixation meal has been my version of egg salad? Avocado toast? You decide.
I just combined all my favorite breakfast foods into one. As a youth, I loved having a fried egg smashed on toast. I suppose this was so I could get equal amounts of yolk/white on the bread. Another food I love mashed on toast, is avocado. So it only makes sense that at some point I would start mashing them together. Here’s what you gotta do –
Mash an avocado with an over-easy fried egg, add some Everything seasoning, a little hot sauce, and if you’re feeling crazy, a little cottage cheese – it is absolutely divine on a slice of sourdough toast.
Playing
Oh I’ve been busy – let’s go by theme.
Food:
- Food & Wine Festival – specifically the Fork + Fire event. Biscuits to Brisket secured an invite to one of my favorite activities, and it was soooo fun. It never ceases to amaze me how talented people in this industry are.
- Tastemaker Awards – same same, but different. I’m the happiest when being fed by the movers and shakers of the TX culinary scene.
Culture:
- Broadway at the Bass – I saw Back to the Future and Some Like It Hot. So good!
Sports + Activity:
- Zoo 5k – It was crazy crowded, but cool to see the animals toward the end. Maybe if they let the lions out, my time could improve.
- PGA Tour Prep – Another work perk. We got to attend the sponsorship kickoff event for the PGA Tour.
Obsession
People wanting to quit their jobs – and others supporting them.
I love that we’re at a point where we’ve collectively stopped glorifying overworking.
I have 3 friends who work at a landscape consulting firm – their expected output? Not 70% – not 80%. Not even 100%. 110% is their expected utilization. It’s almost laughable how insane that is. It is not healthy to survive in this nonsense corporate climate, you either need to evolve to be severely mentally ill or medicated to hit goals like that. Love to see that people are no longer drinking the corporate kool-aid because it really is just a job.

How I look at people who brag about putting in overtime and never taking a vacation:
Recommendation
Becoming Led Zeppelin – I think it’s on Netflix?
This was such a cool documentary. The way the band members speak about each other is so sweet – there is so much admiration. From being homeless (Robert Plant) to being in one of the most famous bands in the world? That’s quite the success story.
I also have so much admiration for Jimmy Page, though I’m not sure why. I just like his vibe.
Additionally, it’s so funny to see clips from their first concert when people were literally plugging their ears.
And almost as good is this killer cover of Stairway to Heaven.
Back to Jimmy – how precious, the way he admires their performance and jams out to their own song?!
Treating
This is a little embarrassing to admit, but eating out. With numerous meetings, events, and activities, I have rarely been home to eat. I think 99% of the meals I’ve consumed at home have been the hyperfixation toast and a latte (shoutout to my roommate’s espresso machine). So worry not, given I am getting my avo toast + coffee fix at home, I am still totally on track to buy a home in this economy.
